About UsMEO offers on-line education programs developed by the Diabetes Education Society (DES). The DES is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) company dedicated to helping people with diabetes and the health care professionals who treat them to better understand the self-management of the disease. These courses are developed by Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE) who are Registered Nurses and Registered Dietitians. Programs are reviewed by our advisory board of endocrinologists, RNs, RDs, pharmacists and other health care professionals. Mary Jo Dudley, RN, BSN, CDE Mary Jo graduated from Presbyterian University School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA in 1968 and received a BSN from The University of Pennsylvania in 1971. She has worked in Intensive Care, and has taught Nursing at New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and at NH Vocational Technical College. In 1976, she and her husband helped establish Camp Carefree, a residential camp for children with diabetes and staffed the camp for many years. She is a founding member and 1st President of the New Hampshire Chapter of Diabetes Educators. In 1996 she started the company “Ideabetes” – selling creative teaching tools for Diabetes Educators. In 2002 she was the recipient of AADE Educator of the Year for her work in creating guidelines for GDM care in New Hampshire. Elizebeth Kearney, RN, MEd, CDE Elizebeth has been a diabetes educator since 1979. She served as Diabetes Program Coordinator for Poudre Valley Hospital in Longmont Colorado for over 10 years. She has published several papers on patient education and diabetes including \"Interdisciplinary Diabetes Team in a Community Hospital\", American Journal of Hospital Pharmacy, vol 34, Nov 1977. She has considerable experience in diabetes self-management skills training and adult learner characteristics. Linda Kohlman, RN, MN, CDE Twenty four years experience in diabetes education. Past Executive and Clinical Director of the Diabetes Education & Support Center of Colorado Springs, CO. Past President of the American Nurses Association district Board of Directors and former Board Member of the Rocky Mountain Association of Diabetes Educators. Spokesperson for the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association. Barbara Schreiner, RN MN BC-ADM CDE Diabetes Education specialists, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Formally Associate Director, Diabetes Care Center at Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, TX. Past member of American Diabetes Association’s National Board of Directors. Past Secretary of the ADA, Texas affiliate. Diabetes Camp Educator of the Year. National speaker and author of numerous articles and books. David Spero, RN, BSN David has done inpatient care in hospital settings, ICU, Emergency Rooms and in clinics and home care. He has provided telephone advice and triage for 12 years at a major Northern California HMO and was leader in that department for several years. Since 1989, he has counseled, coached, and monitored panels of patients with CHF, hepatitis C, and chronic pain. In 1999, he began leading Chronic Disease Self-Management groups and wellness groups for nurses and for people with multiple sclerosis. He currently facilitates a large MS support group in San Francisco. He presents workshops for professionals on motivating self-care in California, Washington, New York, and Leicester, UK. He has written a book on self-care, \"The Art of Getting Well: Maximizing Health When You Have a Chronic Illness\" (published by Hunter House 2002). He regularly contributes articles on self-care in Arthritis Self-Management, Diabetes Self-Management, RN, Nursing Spectrum, and other publications in the US and UK. Polly Wilson, RN, MSN, CDE Polly has fifteen years experience in diabetes education. She has been a consultant, responsible for training and implementation of hospital-based programs, Clinical Manager for Centura Health hospitals in metro Denver and Director of Clinical Operations for DMCare, Inc., an Internet based diabetes management program. Polly is currently working as Director of Quality Improvement at QMark/HEDISHelp in Denver, CO. She has a passion for diabetes education and providing effective programs that assist people with diabetes in making critical lifestyle changes.
