Macrovascular Complications of Diabetes MellitusMacrovascular Complications of Diabetes Mellitus, a one hour accredited course, will discuss the issues related to long-term diabetes, hyperglycemia and macrovascular complications. The primary areas of concern are the heart, arteries and peripheral vascular system. This program will review the mechanism of injury theories and how these systems are affected in diabetes. People with diabetes have a two to five-fold increased risk for developing coronary artery disease than people without diabetes. Prevention is critical. The course will discuss prevention, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options. Several handouts are provided and a case study is presented.
